Family homes, and a lot of Persian cats
Al Warqa is mostly family villas, with apartment blocks in Al Warqa 1. It is a cat area far more than a dog area. Persians, Himalayans and other long-haired breeds are the most common. Many homes keep 2 to 5 cats, and some breed a litter now and then.
Long coats bring their own list of problems. Mats form behind the ears and under the legs within 2 weeks without combing. Flat-faced cats have watery eyes and noisy breathing. Our grooming studio clips matted coats, and a vet is in the building if the skin underneath is sore. Basic cat grooming is AED 69.
The other regular visits are vaccination, neutering and dental checks. For a queen that is pregnant or has just given birth, the vet can confirm the litter by ultrasound and advise on feeding. If she is straining for more than 30 minutes with no kitten, call us at once.

Living with pets in Al Warqa
Long coats in a humid summer
From June to September the air outside is wet and the air inside is dry and cold. Coats tangle faster in those months. Comb a Persian every day, down to the skin. A full clip once in early summer is kinder than months of pulling at mats.
Flat faces and eye care
Persians and exotics have shallow eye sockets and narrow tear ducts. Brown staining is normal. A closed eye, a blue haze or yellow discharge is not, and should be seen within 24 hours. Eye ulcers in these breeds can deepen in a day or two.
Ringworm in multi-cat homes
Ringworm is a skin fungus, and long-haired kittens are the classic carriers. It shows as round bald patches and can pass to children. The vet checks the coat under a special lamp. Every vaccination package here includes that fungal exam.
Breeding and kitten sales
A queen can be in heat again within weeks of weaning a litter in Dubai's climate. Back-to-back litters wear her down. If you are not planning another litter, spaying is AED 399. Kittens should have their first vaccination before they go to a new home.
Bakhoor, incense and sprays
Cats have sensitive airways, and flat-faced cats more so. Heavy bakhoor smoke, oud burners and aerosol sprays in a closed majlis can trigger coughing and wheezing. Keep the cat in another room while burning. A cat that breathes with its mouth open needs a vet now.
Evening family visits
Families from Al Warqa often come together after dinner, between 8 and 11 PM. That is fine. The clinic is open until 12 AM every day. Bring each cat in its own carrier, because even cats that live together can fight in a car.
