What happens when you call
Call 055 620 4085 before you put your cat or dog in the car. The call takes about 2 minutes. It lets the team get the room ready before you arrive. It also tells you whether your animal can safely wait for a normal consultation.
The person who answers asks 5 things. What species and roughly what weight. How old. What happened, and when. Whether your animal is breathing normally and can stand. What it may have eaten. If it is a poisoning, have the packet in your hand. You are then told one of three things: come in now, come in today, or watch at home with a list of signs.
Between 8 AM and 12 AM you come to Shop B04, Samari Retail, Ras Al Khor Industrial 3. X-ray and ultrasound, the laboratory and the inpatient ward are in the same building. After 12 AM the clinic is closed, but the phone is still answered. You get first-aid advice and you are directed to a hospital that is open overnight. We say this plainly because a drive to a closed door wastes time your animal may not have.

Walk to the desk and say that you called. A nurse checks breathing, gum colour, pulse and temperature in the first minutes. An animal that cannot breathe or is bleeding is seen before booked appointments.

The vet deals with breathing, shock and pain first. Tests come second. Blood is run in our own lab, and x-ray or ultrasound is a few steps away.

Heatstroke, May to October
A dog can overheat on a 15-minute walk after sunrise. The signs are heavy panting, thick drool, wobbling and collapse. Pour tap water over the body, not ice water. Put the air conditioning on full and call from the car.
