01Why here
Why dental work is done here and not in a salon
Anaesthetic, monitoring, blood work and x-ray are the parts of a dental that a grooming table cannot offer. All four are in this building.

Scaling is done in the theatre with a tube protecting the airway. A nurse watches heart rate, breathing and oxygen from induction until your animal lifts its head.
Blood test in our own lab that morning
For cats and dogs over 7, the pre-anaesthetic panel runs in the in-house lab at drop-off. The vet reads the result before the anaesthetic starts, not the next day.
Digital x-ray for the root
A broken tooth or a swollen jaw is x-rayed while your animal is asleep. The root is seen before anything is pulled, and a healthy root is left in place.

02Overview
What a dental cleaning does
Plaque hardens into tartar within a few days. Tartar holds bacteria against the gum. The gum turns red, pulls back, and the bone around the root starts to dissolve. By the age of 3, most cats and dogs have some degree of this. The first sign owners notice is the smell.
Scaling removes tartar from the visible tooth and from under the gum line, where the damage happens. Polishing then smooths the enamel so plaque sticks more slowly. It needs a general anaesthetic. No animal holds still for an instrument under the gum, and the airway has to be protected from water and debris. Scraping teeth on an awake dog cleans what you can see and leaves the disease in place.
It starts with a consultation, where the vet grades the mouth and gives you a written estimate. For animals over 7, a blood test in our own lab comes before the anaesthetic. A swollen jaw or a broken tooth may need an x-ray to see the root.

MorningThe vet listens to the heart and checks the mouth again. You sign the consent form and confirm the phone number we should call during the procedure.

Scaling and checking
45 to 90 minutesEach tooth is cleaned and probed. Pocket depth, loose teeth and exposed roots are noted. A nurse monitors heart rate, breathing and oxygen throughout.

The phone call
If any tooth is loose, broken or has a deep pocket, the vet calls you with the finding and the price. Nothing is extracted without your answer.

Things that are different in Dubai
Small flat dogs, crowded mouths
Pomeranians, Shih Tzus, Yorkies and Maltese are the common dogs in Dubai flats. They fit 42 teeth into a short jaw. Tartar builds faster, and many need a first cleaning by age 2 or 3.
Persians and rescued street cats
Flat-faced cats have rotated teeth that trap food. Cats taken in from the street often carry calicivirus, which is linked to painful inflamed gums. Both groups need a mouth check every year.
Summer and soft food
In the hot months many owners switch to wet food to get more water in. That is sensible for the kidneys. It also means more plaque, so brushing matters more from May to October.
Bones, antlers and hooves
Hard chews sold in pet shops here break the large upper cheek tooth in dogs. If you cannot dent a chew with your thumbnail, it is too hard.
Before a long trip
A sore tooth becomes an abscess at the worst time. If you leave for 2 months in summer, have the mouth checked in May, not the week before the flight.
Evening pick-up
The clinic is open until 12 AM. You can collect after work, and your animal has had more hours to wake up fully.

Signs that a mouth needs a vet this week
Cats and dogs keep eating through severe tooth pain. Look for these signs.
Phone answered 24 hours
- Breath that smells rotten, not just of food
- A red line where the gum meets the tooth, or gums that bleed when touched
- Dropping food, chewing on one side or swallowing kibble whole
- Pawing at the mouth or drooling, sometimes with blood in it
- A swelling under one eye, which often means a tooth root abscess
- A cat that goes to the bowl, then walks away from it
08Afterwards
After the cleaning
Feed a small soft meal on the first evening. If teeth were removed, keep food soft for 7 days and hold back chews and toys. Gums heal fast, and most animals eat better within 2 days than they did before.
Tartar returns within months without home care. Daily brushing with a pet toothpaste is the only method with strong evidence. Human toothpaste is not safe to swallow.
- Start brushing 7 days after the procedure, once the gums have settled
- Use a soft brush and lift the lip. The outer surfaces are the ones that matter
- Give any medication for the full course, even if the mouth looks fine
- Come to the gum check. It shows whether brushing is reaching the back teeth
- Book a mouth check once a year, with the vaccine visit
