02Overview
What is done, and what is not
Basic grooming for a cat is a shower and blow-dry, ear cleaning and tooth washing. Full grooming adds the haircut. For dogs, full grooming is priced in 3 weight bands, up to 40 kg. A heavier dog is quoted when we see him. The groomer looks at the coat with you at drop-off and confirms what will be done before starting.
A matted coat is a medical matter as much as a cosmetic one. Mats pull on the skin all day and hide sores, fleas and grass seeds. A tight mat cannot be brushed out without pain, so it is clipped off close to the skin. That is where the lion cut comes from. It is the kind way to restart a coat that has felted.
Grooming here has limits. If the groomer finds red skin, a smelly ear, a lump or a wound under the coat, the session pauses and you are told. A vet can examine it as a consultation. Medicated baths are given when a vet has prescribed the shampoo. Tartar on the teeth needs a dental cleaning, which tooth washing does not replace.

04On the day
A grooming appointment, step by step
Most sessions take 1 to 3 hours, depending on coat and size. We call or message you when your animal is ready.

Before you come
Give a dog a walk and a toilet break first. Do not bath a matted coat at home. Water tightens mats and makes them harder to remove.

Drop-off
The groomer runs hands and a comb through the coat with you there. You agree the length, the style and the price. Mention any lump, sore spot or past bad reaction to grooming.

Bath and dry
The coat is washed, rinsed fully and blow-dried. Ears are cleaned. Flat-faced breeds overheat easily under a dryer, so tell us if yours has struggled before.

Clip and finish
Clipping happens on a dry coat. Nails are checked. If the skin under the coat is not healthy, the groomer stops and calls you.

Pick-up
You are told what was found, such as dry skin, ear wax or a broken nail. Ask how often your animal's coat type needs doing.

Do not shave a double coat
Huskies, golden retrievers, Pomeranians and German shepherds have an undercoat that insulates against heat as well as cold. Shaving it exposes the skin to sunburn and can grow back patchy. A proper de-shed and a trim of the feathering does more.
Persians and Himalayans
They are the most common long-haired cats in Dubai homes, and the quickest to mat. Air conditioning dries the coat and static knots it behind the ears and under the arms. Comb daily and book a groom every 6 to 8 weeks.
Humidity, sand and ears
From July to September the air is wet. Ears that stay damp after a bath or a swim grow yeast. Beach sand lodges between the toes and in skin folds. Rinse with fresh water after the beach and dry the ears.
Ticks under the coat
Ticks hide in the ears, between the toes and under the collar. Groomers often find them first. If one is found, the vet can advise a product that suits your dog's weight and age.
Book before the rush
Slots go quickly before Eid, before the summer travel weeks and in December. A week's notice is sensible at those times.
The trip home
A freshly clipped dog has less protection from the sun and from hot ground. Cool the car first. Walk him at dawn or after sunset for the first few days.

These need a diagnosis before a bath. Book a consultation first.

- Bald patches, especially round ones in a cat or kitten
- Constant scratching, licking of the paws or chewing at the tail base

- Mats so tight that the skin underneath is broken or bleeding
08Afterwards
Between grooms
A short-haired cat needs a brush once a week. A long-haired cat needs a metal comb every day, down to the skin, not over the top of the coat. Dogs with hair that keeps growing, such as poodles, Shih Tzus and Maltese, need clipping every 6 to 8 weeks.
- Comb behind the ears, under the arms and around the back legs, where mats start
- Dry the ears after every bath and swim
- Bath a dog no more than every 2 to 4 weeks, unless the vet has prescribed otherwise
- Check the skin after a close clip. Mild redness for a day is common. Call if it lasts
